Who can apply?

Early-career, tenure-track (research) faculty members teaching at any level (undergraduate and/or graduate/professional). Assistant professors in their first three years on campus will be prioritized.

Clinical and academic staff instructors are encouraged to apply to the CTLM Teaching Fellows program.

What does participation involve?

Fellows begin with a 2-day Faculty Institute on Teaching held just before the start of their first semester in the program. After that, they join 90-minute weekly sessions during the academic year (we pause for university breaks).

Each person matters to the cohort community, and for this reason, we ask that Fellows commit to participating in the majority of sessions. We understand that you may need to miss occasional sessions due to illness, travel, or other unexpected circumstances.

Is there work outside of the MTLE sessions?

Yes, occasionally. Some weeks we’ll invite you to read a short teaching-focused chapter or design a new assignment or activity to bring in for discussion.

We know you’re balancing a full workload. We keep outside preparation minimal and flexible, and we understand when other responsibilities take precedence. Even when prep isn’t possible, you’re always welcome to participate in our weekly session — no judgment.

How are weekly session times determined?

Each semester, we check in with new and returning Fellows to gather scheduling input. We use this to find a meeting time that works best for each cohort.

What topics are covered?

You can learn more on our curriculum overview page or explore more detailed module descriptions in our curricular arc summary. We’re happy to discuss this in more detail in our initial conversation together.

I'll be traveling a lot this year. Should I wait to apply?

If you anticipate a semester with significant research travel or personal commitments, we encourage you to carefully consider your availability. Regular participation helps you and your cohort get the most from the program. We’re happy to talk through timing during our preliminary interview together to help you decide.

I have a good sense of the coming semester, but I’m unsure what my schedule will look like a semester after that. Should I apply?

Absolutely. If something changes mid-way through the program and you need to pause, we’re happy to hold your spot in a future cohort. We aim to be flexible where we can.

I've applied! What happens next?

At the end of the application period, we’ll reach out to schedule a brief (20-minute) Zoom conversation. This informal chat gives us a chance to learn a bit about your teaching, talk through any timing considerations, and answer any questions you might have about the program.
